Margery Macey’s teaching program centers around nurturing the love of music, encouraging, challenging, and motivating her students, and preparing them as needed for auditions and school placement tests. Adults are welcome as well as beginners and all levels. She has 17 years private teaching experience in the Cobb/Cherokee/Douglas County area. Besides her teaching at Elm Street Cultural Arts Village, Mrs. Macey also teaches at GCA, Georgia Center for the Arts, the Kell High School Music Conservatory where she has served since it opened in 2005, and in South Canton (BridgeMill) as well. She directed the Flute Juice Youth Ensembles at the middle school and high school levels for 12 years. This talented group of young flutists performed at the Galleria Mall, Hastings Garden Center, Atherton Place Retirement Center, the Atlanta Symphony Decorator Showhouse in Buckhead, The Art Place, Christmas at Callanwolde, and more. Mrs. Macey has directed flutists at band camps and in master classes at Etowah High School, Kell High School, and Freedom, Woodland, and Woodstock Middle Schools, and others.
Many of her students have continued on to earn degrees in flute at bachelors and masters degree levels. Mrs. Macey begins with her students where they are and works with them according to their learning styles, and the interests, goals, and needs they express. Some prefer to perform but not compete. Either way can be very rewarding.
Mrs. Macey holds a BA degree with Honor from DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana. She has studied flute performance with Wallace Mann, former Principal Flutist with the National Symphony Orchestra, Washington, D.C., Harold Sharp, formerly with the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, Betty Bennett, former director of the Cobb Symphony, Christina Smith, Principal Flutist with the Atlanta Symphony, and Kathy Farmer, Principal Flutist with the DeKalb Symphony. She has attended over 30 flute master classes, and participated in National Flute Association Conventions in Orlando, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington, DC, and New York City, and in fifteen Atlanta Flute Club Flute Fairs.
