Have you ever wondered what Hollywood is really like? Well here is your chance to find out! John Homa and Jeff Dockweiler, two of the best acting coaches in Hollywood, are coming to Elm Street.

With a combined 25 years on film/television sets, their proven approach has produced success for a star-studded client list that includes Kirsten Dunst, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Michelle Williams, Eric Balfour, LeAnn Rimes, Katie Cassidy, Elijah Kelly, Brie Larson, Sarah Roemer, Brittany Murphy, Conner Paolo, Stella Maeve, Evan Rachel Wood and hundreds more. This workshop will include lecture and scene study that will give you the truth about what is expected of you as an actor from every aspect of the film and television world and how to achieve the success you desire. Mirroring the pressures and demands of a set, their workshop is like no classroom you have ever been in and guarantees to make an impact on your life and career. You are also sure to have a lot of fun in the process. By the time you are done with this workshop, you will know exactly what you want as a professional not only in Georgia but extending all the way to Hollywood and be headed in the right direction to building the foundation of acting skills necessary to get it. That unique plan will start with a new way to succeed in Georgia and arm you with the knowledge necessary to make the best impact possible on your own auditions and work. It is going to be an action-packed, highly-informative, entertaining opportunity you can’t afford to miss!

CLICK HERE to see a Youtube video about Jeff and John and the Workshops.

2 DAY SCHEDULE (ages 5-12): TUESDAY MAY 28TH – WEDNESDAY MAY 29TH

PRICE: $225.00

CLICK HERE to register securely online.

Day 1 – TUESDAY (6pm-9:30pm) Ages 5-12. (5 yr olds must be able to read)

This session will start with a 30 minute introduction by John and Jeff that will be open to all parents. The purpose of this 30 minute segment is to allow the kids and parents to get a general idea of who John and Jeff are, how they approach teaching and to ask any questions the parents may have. After those 30 minutes, the parents will leave and the session will truly begin with each kid getting an opportunity to do a monologue that will be sent to them over the previous weekend to prepare. This monologue is not a test of their skill level. It is simply an opportunity for each kid to work in class and each one will be used to explain the audition process. Please note that all scenes done with John and Jeff on Tuesday and Wednesday are simply used as teaching tools, not a judgment of talent.

Day 2 – WEDNESDAY (6:30pm-9:30pm) Ages 5-12 (no parents)

This session will take the foundation that was introduced on Day 1 and begin to put it to use with the help of scene work as our teaching tools. Just like the monologues from Day 1, all kids participating in this workshop will be emailed a scene over the weekend prior to the workshop to prepare for use in Day 2. In these sessions, John and Jeff will coach/direct the scenes pushing the actors to get the most out of each scene. The focus is to truly become experts in “story” and the actors will benefit not only in the scenes they work in, but also the scenes they will be watching. Each kid will get to do scene work with both John and Jeff. We challenge any other workshop to give each actor that much direct attention!

CLICK HERE to see a Youtube video about Jeff and John and the Workshops.

3 DAY SCHEDULE (AGES 13-19): THURSDAY MAY 30TH – JUNE 1ST

PRICE: $275.00

CLICK HERE to register securely online

Day 1 – THURSDAY (6:30pm-9:30pm) Ages 13-19

This session will consist of the lecture only portion of the workshop during which John and Jeff will cover the very foundation of their approach to acting and the business of acting. Topics that will be covered will include but not be limited to: cold reading, scene types, scene dynamics, emotional preparation/availability, the audition process and setting a 5 year plan to get what you want. EVERYONE who will be participating in this workshop, must attend this lecture.

Day 2 – FRIDAY (6:30pm-9:30pm) Ages 13-19

This session will take the foundation that was introduced on Day 1 and begin to put it to use with the help of scene work as our teaching tools. In these sessions, John and Jeff will coach/direct the scenes pushing the actors to get the most out of each scene. The focus is to truly become experts in “story” and the actors will benefit not only in the scenes they work in, but also the scenes they will be watching. John will take half of the group and Jeff will take the other half. We challenge any other workshop to give each actor that much direct attention! Please note, the scenes that we will be using for Day 2 and Day 3 will be emailed to each of you the weekend prior to our workshop so you will have a day or 2 to prepare them.

Day 3 – SATURDAY (6:30pm-9:30pm) Ages 13-19

This session is exactly the same set up as Day 2 except for the fact that they will simply flip rooms. Those who had John the day before will have Jeff and visa versa. This will give each actor another full day of scene work and the opportunity to experience both coaches equally. It will also challenge the participating actors to work with 2 different “directors” in 2 days much like they would in Hollywood. All together, it will be 3 days packed with more than they could ever expect from one workshop with regard to total time with Jeff and John and direct attention they will get through scene work.

Hotlanta sets your feet firmly on Bourbon Street in Old New Orleans. You’ll experience every bit of the joy, energy, and humor of that early American Jazz called Dixieland. Songs from Fats Waller, Hoagy Carmichael, Louie Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, plus many old favorites like “Sweet Georgia Brown”, “Royal Garden Blues”, “South”, “Hard Hearted Hannah”, and “When The Saints Go Marchin’ In” are all part of Hotlanta’s musical treat.

Based in Atlanta, the group has performed extensively in the South since its founding by Don Erdman in 1990 with appearances at “The Famous Door” on Bourbon Street in New Orleans’ French Quarter, The Brevard College Jazz Festival in North Carolina, and the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, to name a few. Beyond the South, Hotlanta’s music has been enjoyed around the globe at clubs and jazz festivals in Spain, Germany, Japan, France, Belgium, Finland, Denmark, Poland, Belarus, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore.

Hotlanta concerts aim to entertain. Our audiences become part of the concert when we do audience requests. From a list in their program, the audience will write down their requests during intermission. These requests are then performed during the concert second half. Audiences always have a great time with this popular Hotlanta feature.

Austin Outdoor, headquartered in central Florida, and Highland Waterworks, Inc, of Atlanta, were the two corporate patrons who donated nearly $20,000 worth of materials and labor to complete the event green portion of the four acre site.

Brian Wester, Regional Vice President for Austin Outdoor, remarked, “Elm Street fit in perfectly with the type of projects we like to assist in our corporate outreach program.” Jim Hester, President of Highland Waterworks, added that Highland was “happy to be involved in this community effort.”

Elm Street Board of Directors President Shawn McLeod noted that Walton Communities donated significant amounts of material and labor for overall site grading and infrastructure earlier in 2012.

Melissa Casteel, RLA, principal landscape architect of Mondo Land Planning + Design, is donating services for the site on an ongoing basis.

Mrs. McLeod said that the event green will have multiple uses, based on feedback from the community. Options might include hosting outdoor festivals and markets, offering a recreational space along the Greenprints Trail system, and providing a venue for outdoor performances and classes for the Elm Street Theater and local businesses.

Put your creativity to work for a good cause! Elm Street’s Teen Actors Guild (TAG) was formed in 2010 to give interested teens the opportunity to serve the arts community and especially Elm Street. Activities and events include regular monthly meetings led by elected officers, fundraisers such as the Children’s Medieval Festival and the yearly ENCORE Awards for Elm Street season productions. TAG members assist with season productions as tech operators, production assistants and much more. Teen Arts Night is held the first Friday of every month from 6-8pm in the Auditorium and is open to any teen who wishes to either make a presentation of their particular talent or just enjoy the company of other creative teens. $5 entry includes a slice of pizza and a soda. Interested teens – Grades 7 through 12 – should email TAG@elmstreetarts.org to receive full information and the meeting schedule for this fun and inclusive organization. Yearly membership dues are only $10.00.

Buck Jones Nursery Donates to Elm Street

Tommy Nobis, III of Buck Jones Nursery presented a check for $2,440.00 to the Elm Street Cultural Arts Village as part of their Gardeners Helping the Community program. A $25 membership fee provides a member with special offers and discounts at Buck Jones and 80% of that $25 membership goes directly to Elm Street as a donation. The nursery is located at 7470 Hickory Flat Highway in Woodstock, on a 20-acre facility established in 1993. They offer a complete line of all nursery stock, trees, shrubs, sod grass and hard-line supplies.

“With our gardens and event green on the four acre Downtown Woodstock site under development,” said Elm Street and GROW Board Member Pat Tanner, “this is an ideal partnership. We’re so thankful for their support in 2013 and look forward to next year’s membership program with great anticipation.”

“We were thrilled when Mr. Nobis contacted us about this program and very pleased with the result,” said G. Lora Grooms, Elm Street Founding Artistic Director, “As a 501c3 non profit, every dollar helps and we’re so honored they thought enough of our organization to let us be a part of their Gardeners Helping the Community program.”
